Furniture Fridays

What a couple of weeks it has been! I am so excited for this weeks guest post, and sorry that I was absent for this series last week - Nantucket weather can be so unpredictable. Please join me in welcoming Courtney from Style Court, a wonderfully written and presented blog on design with a capital D! Courtney is a freelance writer and her passion for design, textiles and interiors really comes out with each of her posts. I am so happy to have her here with us for Furniture Fridays and highly encourage everyone to check out her blog. Thanks Courtney!

Maybe describing them as chameleons is a bit of a stretch, but four-poster beds can be incredibly versatile. My own pencil-post bed is something I never tire of. Without bed hangings/curtains it is minimal and sleek, yet with layers of textiles it becomes a cocoon -- a room-within-a-room. In fact, large beds look surprisingly good in small interiors and they can really bring architectural interest to a non-descript room. If you're a renter or living in a place where you don't expect to remain for long, and you don't want to invest in expensive curtains for your windows, textile-covered four-poster beds are great because they can move with you. And you can easily change the look seasonally. Of course, at the same time, in grander surroundings these beds have strong presence too. Having remained in vogue for centuries now, they are true forever pieces.

Check out how Nathan Turner used a four-poster as a focal point in his standard-issue condo bedroom, below.

  3. My goodness, I thought you were going to chip in with some decisive insight at the end there, and you did not leave it with just furniture.
